Adelaide can be low on the tourist radar, with tropical destinations like Cairns our adventurous trips such as Uluru on offer. But Adelaide is a surprising delight for those who visit it, promising exceptional sites and a sophisticated atmosphere. One of the best bonus’ of the city is there an exceptional array of food choices, with stylish restaurants, friendly cafes, and of course a number of markets. Not sure where to start? I’ve sifted through the countless markets on offer and chosen the best of the best that are defiantly worth the visit.

Adelaide Central Market

For the past 145 years, Adelaide Central Market has provided both locals and tourists with the freshest produce the city has on offer. Listed as one of the largest fresh produce markets in the entire country, with more than 80 traders selling everything from fruit and veg, local meat and poultry, to delicious baked goods. Fill up your basket and belly to the brim at this delightful market right in the city centre, only a short walk from your hotel. Check out the Adelaide Gourmet Food, Bike and Discovery Tour if you are interested to discover the fantastic food culture in Adelaide.

Adelaide Night Market

Not much of a morning person? Instead of getting up at the crack of dawn, have a sleep in and head out to shop after sunset! The night market is bursting with over 100 different stalls with food, clothes, crafts, and more! Don’t bother eating beforehand, as the place is stacked with mouth-watering grub, ranging from Asian cuisines, sweet delights, to local specialities. After your feet grow tired, sit down and enjoy the country fair style, with local bands and performers entertaining you as you relax.

Adelaide Farmers’ Market

For a traditional Sunday morning market, try out the Adelaide Showground’s farmer’s market. The open-air market lets your breath in the crisp fresh air as you wander from one stall to the next. Grab a coffee at one of nearby cafes stands and warm yourself up as you enjoy the buzzing atmosphere.

Market Shed on Holland

This market focuses on three things; great food, great music, and great drinks, and what more could you ask for? All the beer, wine, and food is locally sourced, with the music ever-changing but always by a homegrown native. The market showcases the city’s talent in these three things beautifully, welcoming locals to join in on the fun.

Fisherman’s Wharf Market

Interested in one of a kind items for your collection? Go treasure hunting at the Fisherman’s Wharf for bucket loads of ancient antiques, books, art, and more. Here you can enjoy the hunt as well as the scenery, with market nestled right nearby the lighthouse and ocean.
